POWDER COATING
The Better-Than-Factory Finish
Protect your metal parts and surfaces from corrosion, heat, scratches, wear-and-tear, and extreme weather conditions. Powder coating is a high-quality metal finish that’s resistant to breakdown. Thousands of beautiful finishes are available, ranging from textures to base-clear metallic finishes that are as attractive as high-end automotive paint.
You can extend the life of your metal product and forget about spending money on spray paint year after year. At Fox Valley Sandblasting & Powder Coating, we monitor every aspect of the application process from surface preparations to final packaging. This attention to detail ensures you receive a maintenance-free coating and a top-quality finish.
THE GREEN METHOD
Powder coating is the fastest-growing finishing technology in America. The process contains no solvents and therefore emits no volatile organic compounds (VOCs), which can harm the environment.
Most wet paints dry within a day or two of spraying but actually take 30 days to cure. This curing process can release gasses and chemicals into the air, affecting not only the environment but the air quality around the newly coated part. Unlike paint, when powder coated parts come out of the oven, they are fully cured and ready to handle or install.
POWDER COATING PROCESS
Powder coating is an advanced method of applying decorative and protective finishes to any surface that can hold an electrostatic charge and withstand the curing process. The powder is a finely ground mixture of pigment, resin, and fillers and applied by a spray gun that adds a positive electrostatic charge to the powder particles.
The powder is sprayed onto a surface with low-velocity air. The charge then holds the particles in place while they are cured in an oven around 400 degrees. This process creates a durable, uniform, and protective surface.
Fox Valley Sandblasting & Powder Coating offers a wide variety of colors, metallics, textures, glosses, and clear finishes. We keep our inventory stocked with around 600 coating options from all the major powder suppliers. Check out our past projects to see some of our available colors. There are thousands of colors available, usually with a one or two day order time.
UNIQUE POWDER COATING CAPABILITIES
Our shop has two fully equipped powder coating departments. Our largest oven can handle items up to 30 feet in length, and smallest can coat objects as small as a screw.
We have many heavy-duty fixtures to manage projects of all shapes and sizes, everything from production runs of small components to truck beds and other large weldments.
BEFORE WE COAT OR PAINT
It is important to begin with a clean surface to achieve maximum adhesion and durability. Sandblasting is often the first step. This process removes paint, rust, mill scale, welding residue, and other foreign matter before we coat. Sandblasting provides the ideal surface for mechanical bond to the power coat or paint.
